Misty sequences when playing French STANDARD...

Is there a poor  5-3-3-2   11-14 HCP or 6+spades  in a vague range of 11+ HCP

or 5-4 +♣ or a fit too weak to move the 3-level?

The bid is not forcing. We need to invent with 6+ game forcing .

And lead to inaccurate sequences as in the following one.

Is this a two-suiter at least 5-4 or a single-suiter without stopper in heart

or too strong to conclude ?.

Same remarks after the response of 2 and developments.

Now when you play the openings of two major FANTUNESinferences in these sequences allow you to better treat the problems. Indeed, the only weak hands (11-13 - HCP) can only be 5-3-3-2 (possibly 5-4m-2-2).

You can also have a weak hand with 4+hearts but you'll easily bid that hand.

 It is then much more subtle to make the 2 rebid positive (14 + HCP) while 2NT rebid and 3 are minimum  (11 - 13 - HCP 5-3-2-2 or 5-4m-2-2 ). Other rebids at  3-level are structured hands 14 +HCP, two-suiter of at least 10 cards, or single-suiter close to a strong 2.

The bid of 2 is a GAZZILLI . And consequently, the 2NT rebid by responder is then game forcing.

This shows that the flat weak hands are processed immediately and responder with a big hand even  has all  elements to judge the situation and conclude without revealing.

While with stronger hands we develop immediately structured hands and with lesser shape we bid 2♠ to prospect the best contract of game or slam.

Bearing in mind, the fastest you go the weakest you are, the slowest you go the strongest you are.

2 = 5+ cards. 11+HCP or 12+ HCP if 6+ single-suiter.

          With single-suiter of 9+-11 HCP make a direct jump to the 3-level.

2    = 4+ . Only bid ambiguous in force.

2NT  = 5-3-3-2 minimum (11-13 - HCP).

3    = 5-3 -3-2 minimum (possibly with 5-4 -2-2 and an unguarded heart doubleton).

3NT  = 5-3 -3-2 13 +-15 HCP and adjoining stoppers (otherwise 2♠). 3 small diamonds possible.

3 ♣  = 5 +-5 or 6-4 of at least 14 HCP and on the 3 RELAY :

→ 3  = fragment 2 cards (exceptionally 6-4-3-0) in partner's suit.

→ 3♠  = 6-4 +, shortage in partner's suit. (♠ lenghtens diamons)

→ 3NT = 5-5, shortage in partner's suit, minimum.  (NT lenghtens clubs)

→ 4 ♣  = The same for 3NT, but maximum.

→ 4   = 5-5-3-0, 3 cards support, minimum.

→ 4   = SPLINTER. 5-5-3-0, 3 cards support, maximum.

3 ♥   = strong  two-suiter 5+-5.

3 ♠  = strong single-suiter, solid 6+ cards.

4x   = Fragment-BID. 4 cards support. At least 4 keys from ARD   ARD  and ace in the fragment.

2 ♠  = GAZZILLI . 14+ HCP. other hands.

    2 ♠ = GAZZILLI . At least 14 HCP .

             5 ♠-3-3-2, 13 + HCP inappropriate for immediate 3NT.

                             (Too strong or with fit or lack of stoppers)

             6+ ♠  (insufficient strength or suit for 3 ♠).

                                                           5 ♠-4 ♣ (not structured enough for 3 ♣).

2NT = semi-natural RELAY (only 5, optionally 6 not solid).

           3♣ = without shortage (5-3-3-2, 5-4m-2-2, 6-3-2-2)

                    And on the 3  RELAY :

                               → 3    = 3 cards support unlimited in force or 4 cards support 5-4-2-2  13-15 HCP.

                    → 3♠    =  6♠  without support, 6-3-2 -2.

                    → 3NT  = 16-17 HCP  5-3-3-2 or 5-4 -2-2

                    → 4NT  = 18-19 HCP  5-3-3-2 .

                    → 4♣    = 18-23 HCP 5-4 ♣-2-2. There is no jump then the bid is natural.

                    → 4     = 4 cards support 5-4-2-2, 16+ HCP.

          3NT = 5-3-3-2 or 5-4 -2-2, 13 +-15 HCP with a lack of stoppers.

           Other auctions with singleton (5-4-3-1, 6-3-3-1)

           3 = 3 cards support with a shortage

                    And on  3 RELAY :

                    → 3♠   = short (short major).

                    → 3NT = short ♣ (short minor) 6-3-3-1 ♣, limited otherwise 4x.

           3 = 5♠-4♣-3-1 .

           3♠ = 6♠-3-3-1 .

    4x   = SPLINTER. 4 cards support without 4 key cards.

3♣  = two-suiter of at least 10 cards. And on the 3 RELAY :

3  = 5-5♣ short . (3lengthens clubs)

3♠  =  fragment 2 cards (exceptionally 6-4-3-0) in partner's suit.
3NT= 6-4 short ♠, minimum.

4 ♣  = The same for 3NT, but maximum.

4   = 5-5-3-0, 3 cards support, minimum.

4   = SPLINTER. 5-5-3-0, 3 cards support, maximum.

3  = single-suiter, 6+ correct cards, 12+ HCP ( with 14 HCP is short in spades)

3  = 6-4+ .

3NT = 6-3-3-1 ♠, 12-13 HCP. Exactly in the same spirit that after 1♠     2♣ (SAUVET)      2 ( not mini).

Remarks :  these developments can only happen if the response of 2 like that of 2 shows 5+ cards.

Then it is interesting to say that the direct jump of a minor at the 3-level  is a one suiter of 10-11 HCP.

This allows to say that 2m followed by 3m is a one suiter of 12+ HCP game forcing.

Developments in the same spirit after 1 ♠ 2

2 ♠ = GAZZILLI . At least 14 HCP .

             5♠-3-3-2, 13 + HCP inappropriate for immediate 3NT.

                             (Too strong or with fit or lack of stoppers)

             6+ ♠  (insufficient strength or suit for 3 ♠).

         5 -4 m (not structured enough for 3 m).

2NT = semi-natural RELAY (only 5 hearts optionally 6 not solid).

            3 ♣ = without shortage (5-3-3-2, 5-4m-2-2, 6-3-2-2)

                     And on the  3RELAY :

                     → 3  =  3 or 4 cards support  too strong for direct 4 .

                     → 3♠  = 6♠-2

                     → 3NT = 16-17 HCP  5-3-3-2 or 5-4m-2-2

                     → 4NT = 18-19 HCP  5-3-3-2 .

                     → 4m  = 18-23 HCP, 5-4m-2-2. There is no jump then natural bid.

           3NT = 5-3-3-2 or 5-4m-2-2, 13 + -15 HCP, with a lack of stoppers.

           Other auctions with shortage (5-4-3-1, 6-3-3-1, 5-4-4-0 exceptionally)

           3   = 3 cards support with a singleton (5-4-3-1).

                       And 3NT asks the singleton.

           4m  = SPLINTER, 4 cards support with only 3 key cards.

           3   = 5♠-4m-3-1 (5-4-4-0)

                     And on the  3 RELAY :

                     → 3♠    = with diamonds (5-4 -3-1, 5-4-4-0)

                     → 3NT =  with clubs  (5-4 ♣-3-1) minimum otherwise 4 ♣.

           3♠ = 6♠-3-3-1 short

3m = two-suiter of at least 10 cards.

3   = single-suiter, 6+ correct cards, 10+ HCP ( 14+ HCP if short in spades).

3NT = 6-3-3-1♠ 10-13 HCP. Exactly in the same spirit after 1♠      2♣ (SAUVET)      2 (not mini).

Notes: Direct FRAGMENT BID by the opener shows at least 4 keys. While a SPLINTER after GAZZILLI 2♠ shows a maximum of 3 keys.

This is comparable to direct FRAGMENT BID by the opener  on a major response  showing 5 keys, then through a GAZZILLI the SPLINTER shows only 4 keys.

2 = 5+ cards. 11+HCP or 12+ HCP if 6+ single-suiter.

          With single-suiter of 9+-11 HCP make a direct jump to the 3-level.

Developments strictly in the same style. You must nevertheless accept that you need to rebid 2♠  even with  11 HCP. This allows to say that  2 rebid is GAZZILLI while still denying 4 spades cards.

Then the sequences where the opener names his  major two-suiter is not game forcing and  the responder rebid 2NT is only propositional. But other rebids by the responder including the repetition of his suit is game forcing.
