1♦ = 5+♦ unbalanced 11-23 HCP. 2 exceptions: 4-4-4-1, 5♦-3-3-2 (17+ -19 HCP)
If 5♦-4♥-2-2 or 5♦-4 ♣-2-2 little concentrated open 1♣ or 1NT.
As 1♦ opening is unbalanced, you may have to play some particuliar developments. In particular to bid the
5+♠-4+♥ not strong
enough to
make a second bid after opener's rebid of 2♣ or 2♦ (which has a good chance of occuring since opener is unbalanced).
